SAD WAY TO BE UNSEALED

My birth records are sealed,
My adoption papers are sealed.

There is no legal, public or social recognition
that I was born to the parents to whom I was born.

There is no record that I am related
to those that have the same mother or father
as me.

Not until now.

Over the past nine months
(a familiar span of time)
both my birth parents have died.

Their obituaries have been
published in newspapers for all to see.
There is my name in print,
finally revealed to the public
that I am their offspring
along with the names of all
my brothers and sisters.

Finally it is not hidden,
there is a record
that I was their child
and I am part of the family
with all my siblings.

It is just a sad way
to be unsealed.
