Merriam-Webster Dictionary Definition:
A political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race
above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and
social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.
Definition of fascism for Students: a political system headed by a dictator in which the government controls business and
labor and opposition is not permitted.
Note: Many newer dictionaries published after 2008 provide an incorrect definition of fascism associating fascism with any
right wing views or organizations. Fascism, being a socialist movement, is actuall on the left side of the political spectrum.
Because of the differences of opinion between communist socialists and fascist socialists, the fascists were considered to be
to the right of the communists but still on the left wing side of the political spectrum. Communists were considered to be more
to the left in the left wing side of the political spectrum. Thus the only way that fascism is a "right wing" group is that they
are to the "right" of the communists, but they are still on the far left wing of the political spectrum. They are in no way
associated with organizations or views that are on the right side of the political spectrum.
Fascism was at its height between 1914 until near the end of World War II. A proper definition of fascism should be properly
descriptive of the movements and ruling powers at that time including Mussolini's Fascist Italy, Hitler's Nazi Germany, and
Vichy France. These movements and governments were all socialist, believed in a strong central government lead by a dictator
with unrestrained power, heavy government regulation and control of private businesses, and no tolleration of opposing views
The accurate definition of fascism in no way reflects the views of any on the right side of the political spectrum.
Those on the right believe in individualism rather than a centralized autocratic government.
Those on the right believe in democratically elected government representatives that have limited powers restricted by the
constitution rather than a government headed by a dictatorial leader.
Those on the right believe in free markets and a limited government rather than severe economic and social regimentation.
Those on the right believe in free speech and the right of political dissent rather than forcible suppression of opposition.
Fascism is much more aligned with views of the political left, especially far left political movements such as "Antifa".
If one wishes to resist fascism, then one needs to resist Antifa and other far left socialist movements.
